Safety Course Offering for General Contractors – Mobile Crane Operations

OCA in partnership with Eastern Crane Rentals Inc. is pleased to offer a specialized safety awareness course tailored for employees of General Contractors and/or Constructors, as defined under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) for construction projects.
The curriculum focuses on practical tools and regulatory awareness to help constructors meet their obligations and improve site safety outcomes.
Course Topics Include:
- An overview of a constructor’s responsibilities regarding site safety under the OHSA for construction projects
- Specific responsibilities related to mobile hydraulic cranes working on the constructor’s site
- Some of the tools available to constructors for ensuring crane and hoisting safety:
- The Liftplan
- Risk/Hazard Assessments
- Tailgate Meetings
- Introduction to digital tools that streamline the use of these safety practices—making them easier for employees to complete and more efficient for management to review and extract safety metrics

Speaker
Frank Sved
Frank has been involved in the mobile hydraulic crane industry since 1995 and has worked directly in crane rental operations for over thirty years. His experience spans job assessment, safety program development, site risk and hazard assessments, and detailed hoisting plans for a wide range of construction projects.
For the past ten years, Frank has been with Eastern Crane, where he has focused on advancing safety and planning tools for the industry. He developed an automated Site Risk/Hazard Assessment system and an automated lift planning process to help companies reduce liability. He also teaches mobile crane planning and site safety, with an emphasis on risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and road encroachment planning for urban hoisting operations.
