CST: Effective Meetings & Delegation in Construction
Description
Part 1: Effective Meetings
Construction supervisors both attend and lead meetings. As meeting participants, effective supervisors need to be well prepared, and willing and able to offer constructive input. As effective meeting leaders, supervisors need to be able to plan and conduct well organized meetings that will achieve specific objectives.
This module is intended to help supervisors understand and facilitate the critical role productive and efficient meetings play in the success of projects and in team dynamics. In this module, participants will discuss the characteristics of effective meetings, and practice best practices for being an engaged and productive meeting participant. Participants will also practice techniques for leading effective meetings.
Part 2: Delegation
Construction supervisors should be able to delegate appropriate work to team members and ensure that work is completed to expectations. Delegating effectively means understanding the type of work or responsibilities that can be delegated and how to match delegated tasks with appropriate individuals. Delegating effectively also means being willing and able to follow through to ensure tasks get completed correctly and in the manner expected.
This module is intended to help participants use delegation as a strategy for achieving work goals more effectively and for developing staff. In this module, participants will discuss the concept of delegation and how it compares to other management practices and tendencies. They will gain an understanding of the important role delegation plays in productivity and supervision by discussing the benefits of delegation and the symptoms of poor and/or the lack of delegation. Participants will also learn guidelines for determining when and to whom to delegate.
