CST: Human Resource Practices

Construction supervisors often play a key role in ensuring human resource regulations, policies and practices are applied fairly and consistently on the work site. To do so, supervisors need to interpret and apply human resource management policies and practices as defined by the company and/or by the industry.

The Human Resource Practices module is intended to help you gain a clear understanding of your roles and responsibilities related to the application of human resource policies and legislation. You will discuss human resource related legislation such as employment standards and workplace health and safety. You will also look at common policy areas such as employee selection, training and development, harassment, substance abuse, attendance policies and your responsibilities for applying these policies on the worksite.

This 6.5 hour module provides you with a course certificate worth 1 Gold Seal Credit.

Josée Larocque-Patton, HR ICU

Josée is a Human Resources Expert specializing in HR emergencies, problem solving, crisis management and overall performance management. She began her HR career on the waters more than 18 years ago with Celebrity Cruise Lines, Disney Cruise Lines and eventually landing in the Bahamas.

Once back in Ontario, Josée began working for the largest pharmaceutical company in Canada for over a decade.  Josée is the everyday “go-to” person for all HR matters for more than 450 clients.

A few years ago she launched her own HR consulting firm to help small and medium sized businesses as their trusted HR advisor. Assisting with anything from M&A’s, hiring packages, policies and procedures, employee handbooks, health & safety, AODA, Covid-19 challenges, employee engagement, performance management and more.

Since has since written and published her first book called Navigating HR – Simple Tips for People Leaders available on Amazon. She is also a Forbes Business Council Member and writes for Forbes online. 

OCA launched the Construction Supervisor Training Certificate program in 2019 to provide a structured professional development program for the next generation of leaders in the field and office.

Effective construction supervision requires a wide variety of skills, such as people skills (communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, coaching), technical skills (planning, meetings and delegation), and management skills (human resources and authentic leadership).

This comprehensive program provides it all, and is delivered in manageable segments by industry experts with extensive hands-on experience in construction’s ICI sector. Participants have the flexibility to attend modules in any order. Once participants have completed all nine* courses, they will be awarded a Construction Supervisor Training (ICI) certificate.
